Bahrain Enjoys A Medal-Filled Day At Asian Games

Rose Gilmo offered Bahrain the first gold medal in the 18th Asian Games

Bahrain athletes triumphed yesterday in the 18th Asian Games being held in Indonesia, clinching 7 medals. They shined in the second day of the athletic championship, winning four gold medals, one silver and two bronze, bringing Bahrain’s overall tally to 9 medals.

Bahrain’s Ambassador to Indonesia Dr. Mohammed Ghassan Shikhoo attended the competitions which were held at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Main Stadium in Jakarta. Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) Secretary-General Abdulrahman Askar, board members Shaikha Hayat bin Abdulaziz Al-Khalifa, Ali Ishaqi and Khalid Al-Khayyat were also present, along with mission chief Bader Nasser and members of the media and administrative delegation.

International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) President Sebastian Coe, International Sports Press Association (AIPS) President Gianni Merlo and other members of the IAAF and the Asian Athletics Federation also attended.

Rose Gilmo offered Bahrain the first gold medal in the 18th Asian Games, after winning the women’s marathon, clocking 2:34:5. Salwa Eid Nasser also clinched the gold medal, after dominating the 400 metre-race, clocking an impressive 50:09 seconds.

Hassan Shani shined at the Asian games and offered Bahrain its third gold medal of the day after winning the 10-kilometre men’s race, clocking 28:35:54. Odiong Edidiong brought Bahrain’s tally of gold medals to four after winning the 100-metre women’s race, clocking 11.30 seconds.
