Expats working in Bahrain could soon be forced to undergo new medical examinations when they re-enter the country if MPs have their way.
Last week, parliament unanimously voted in favour of such a move. The proposal will now be referred to the Cabinet.
MP Mohammed Al Jowder said the proposal covered expats who go on vacation to countries with known illnesses or epidemics, adding; “the proposal aims to ensure there is no spread of diseases in the country.”
No explanation was given by MPs as to why, if the purpose of the legislation is to prevent the spread of diseases in the country, the new law would not also apply to Bahrainis.
