Continued Growth For Nissan In The Middle East

Achieving more than 20% growth in the GCC Region through 2017, Nissan continues to increase its Market Share.

We were invited to join the Nissan team for the release of their Financial Results for 2017 which took place at the new Bulgari Resort in Dubai last month. Gathering journalists from across the region at this exclusive venue gave some indication of the successful results that would be presented. Attending the event were business and marketing heads from Nissan’s senior management team in the Middle East, led by their Managing Director Juergen Schmitz. Further alluding to the figures that would be presented, Juergen opened the event with the statement “In the past year, Nissan has continued its upward trajectory in the Middle East, growing in terms of sales, market share, customer satisfaction and brand power. We are determined to continue this growth by focusing on our customers.”

We were then provided an in depth review of the continued growth of the brand in the region, for the first time excluding the KSA market which is now managed independently of the other GCC countries. Some of the highlights were the Nissan Patrol, which now dominates the critical SUV market in UAE, and the Nissan Sunny which leads the highly competitive midsize market. Overall, FY17 was also a strong year for Nissan in terms of accolades, with the company receiving eight awards at the 2018 MENA Cristal Festival, including the prestigious Festival Grand Prix. The Nissan Altima, Nissan Kicks and Nissan GT-R also all received awards at various ceremonies throughout the year. In addition, Nissan’s AQDAR Drive Safely campaign received two different industry awards for the most innovative Road Safety CSR campaign.

An interesting announcement late last year, featured during the event, was the accolade of Nissan becoming the Official Automotive Partner for Expo 2020 Dubai. This partnership will focus on next generation cars from the brand, most importantly featuring the Nissan Leaf, currently the world’s #1 selling wholly electric car.

At the event Nissan also took the opportunity to unveil the latest iteration of the Nissan Pathfinder, their popular four-wheel drive, the 2019 Pathfinder Midnight Edition. With its exclusive black aluminium-alloy wheels, black exterior accents and LED interior lighting, this latest Pathfinder provides a unique head-turning look to the other models in the family. Available only in Caspian Blue, Silver, Magnetic Black, Pearl White and Gun Metallic, the latter being our favourite, the visual impact of this family SUV has increased dramatically.

There are many other changes introduced in this latest iteration, most notable of these is the increase in technology throughout the car, with Nissan’s Advanced Drive Assist Display with a highly accurate and responsive voice recognition system which was a joy to use.

Driving the car through the busy streets of Dubai, the urban environment being its most common playground we suspect, was a most pleasurable experience. It’s 3.5 litre V6  engine certainly provides enough performance and the selectable or automatic 2 or 4 wheel drive providing all of the necessary traction needed for either urban or desert routes.

In summary, this largely cosmetic makeover has resulted in a more refined looking vehicle, building on the already successful platform of the Pathfinder. We like it!
