Special warning for motorists driving on hard shoulder. Hard shoulder driving will attract is Dh1,000 fine plus six black points. Drivers caught blocking emergency vehicles now also face Dh1,000 fine plus four black points. The vehicles will be seized for a period of 30 days.
According to the police, blocking or not giving way to ambulances or other emergency vehicles is an uncivilized behaviour, causing delay in reaching accident or fire scenes to save lives. Police added that 97 cases of drivers not giving way to emergency vehicles were recorded in 2016.
“Drivers put suffering people’s lives in danger by not giving way to ambulances. They should move out of the way and let emergency teams pass to reach quickly to patients or accident victims,” police stated.
