Domestic cricketer collapses during practice game, dies

The cricketing fraternity in Oman was left in shock on Saturday after 39 year old Mohammed Ashfaque Shaikh, who played in domestic league, collapsed on the field and passed away soon after being admitted to the hospital due to a heart attack the same morning.

The tragic incident took place as Shaikh was completing his over. After picking a wicket in the over, Shaikh was about to bowl the next delivery when he just stopped and squatted. His teammates thought that he was taking rest and before they could realise, Shaikh fell with his face on to the ground. The teammates then brought a car to the ground and rushed him to the nearest hospital.

“We did give CPR but as he did not respond we took him to The Royal Hospital and reached in less than ten minutes,” said Samir Saiyed, a close relative and his teammate. “Doctors tried for nearly 30-40 minutes to revive him but failed. They said he suffered a massive heart attack.”
