Dubai: Emirates to Serve Traditional Onam Menu on Kerala Flights

Dubai’s Emirates will offer passengers onboard meals that celebrate the Kerala harvest festival, Onam. Passengers will also be able to choose from a wide range of Malayalam movies onboard, the airline said in a statement on Monday.

The move is part of the airline’s commitment to embrace diverse cultures by celebrating global festivals, sharing these experiences with its passengers.

From Onam to Diwali, Eid to Christmas, and beyond, the airline’s seasonal menus and thoughtful initiatives continue to enhance the journey for travellers worldwide.

Emirates to serve traditional Onam sadhya on Kerala flights

From August 20 to 31, 2023, Emirates passengers on flights between Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai will have the chance to eat the Onam sadhya in flights.

Travellers on Emirates’ 14 times weekly flights to Kochi and the 7 times weekly flights to Thiruvananthapuram will be offered curated menus for Onam,

The menu includes sharkara upperi, a sweet jaggery-roasted banana; kaya varuthathu, crispy banana chips; and kondattam mulaku, fried sundried chillies soaked in yogurt.

Complementing these appetisers are a selection of essential Onam dips, such as kaalan made from coconut and fresh yoghurt, cucumber pachadi, a garnished salad, and puli inji, a sweet and tangy ginger-based chutney.

First Class and Business Class passengers will also be treated to Kerala-style pappadam and mango pickle.

Moving on to the main courses, passengers can indulge in a range of mouth-watering options.

Alleppey kozhi curry, a spiced chicken dish in coconut sauce, will be paired with avial, chemba rice, and cabbage carrot thoran.

Vegetarian options include the classic sadhya, featuring sambar and kootu, accompanied by matta rice and carrot pea thoran.

The menu also boasts spiced chicken sukha, pan-fried chicken with coconut and spices, served alongside steamed rice, carrot pea thoran, and vegetable kootu.

Mutton lovers can choose from mutton sukha with chemba rice, erissery, and bean thoran. For First Class passengers, the mutton pepper fry is an alternative.

For dessert, passengers can eat palada pradhaman, a creamy rice pudding adorned with roasted pistachios, raisins, and cashew nuts, shares the spotlight with parippu payasam, a sweet lentil pudding topped with roasted coconut flakes.
