Jobseekers in the UAE have had a tough time last year due to a slowdown in hiring brought about by challenging economic conditions, however employers in the Middle East are “getting comfortable with the idea of hiring again”, so says Suhail Masri, Vice-President of Employer Solutions at Bayt.com; adding that there was a notable increase in online job postings in the first quarter of 2017.

In terms of online job postings and hiring activity, the healthcare sector recorded the most growth whilst the hospitality industry posted a dip in performance according to Sanjay Modi, Managing Director of Monster.com for APAC and the Middle East.

“The UAE hospitality industry, much like others around the world, has had a challenging year in 2016 with growing supply, weakened currencies including the rouble, euro and British pound, a stronger dollar to which the UAE dirham is pegged, and the lingering low oil prices. We are hopeful that with the sustained political security, more stable economic conditions and the growing number of world-class tourist attractions being launched in the country, the sector will see some improvement in the coming years,” added Modi.
