Oman: Antiques Aged Over 4,500 Years Unearthed at Wadi Al Maawil

Archaeological survey and research carried out by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in the Wilayat of Wadi Al Maawil, South Al Batinah Governorate, unearthed many archaeological objects dating back more than 4,500 years.

The mission, carried out in cooperation with an Italian mission from the University of Sapienza, set hands-on pottery, white beads and stone beads dating back to the Iron Age.

Dr. Al Mutassim Nasser Al Hilali, Director of the Department of Heritage and Tourism in the South Al Batinah Governorate, said that the findings prove the prevalence of human settlements in the area throughout the ages.

The antiquities were found after implementing a systematic programme of scientific survey and excavation in the said archaeological sites, Dr. Al Mutassim added.
