Oman Post Launches New Commemorative Postal Collection

Oman Post, an affiliate of Asyad Group, announced the launch of a commemorative postal collection titled “1/4 Anna in the Reign of Sultans of Oman”.

The collection sheds light on the history of coin minting in the Sultanate of Oman and reflects Oman Post’s efforts to document the history of the country through commemorative stamps and unique postal products. The distinctive collection will be available for public purchase at Oman Post’s Stamps and Collectibles shop at the Opera Galleria, along with numerous other collectables.

Oman Post has announced two editions of this collection. The first edition is a regular release that includes an envelope and a souvenir sheet, along with a sheet of stamps featuring a circular stamp in copper colour, replicating the design of the 1/4 Anna coin. The second edition is a special release designed exclusively for historical memorabilia enthusiasts, containing an exclusive cover that includes the original 1/4 Anna coin. Additionally, it consists of an informative card detailing the history of coin minting during the reign of the Sultans, a souvenir sheet, and a sheet of stamps.

The 1/4 Anna coin held immense significance in Oman’s political and financial history. The history of this coin dates to the year (1315 Hijri / 1898 AD); more than 130 years ago. It was minted in Muscat, in the reign of Sultan/ Faisal bin Turki, Sultan of Muscat and Oman during the period (1305 – 1331 Hijri / 1888 – 1913 AD). Known as the “Baisa” by Omanis then, the coin continued to be used throughout the reigns of Sultan/ Taimur bin Faisal and Sultan/ Said bin Taimur.
