Oman: SalamAir Launches Direct Flights to Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan
SalamAir, the first low-cost carrier in the Sultanate of Oman, has launched bi-weekly direct flights to the city of Almaty in the Republic of Kazakhstan using its latest Airbus aircraft. Flying every Saturday and Wednesday, it is the first time SalamAir will be operating direct flights to Almaty.
Najmuddin Mohammad Ali, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Sultanate of Oman, said that the move will contribute to strengthening bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, especially economic and tourism.
“We are counting on this historic step, as it is the first scheduled flight between the two countries,” the ambassador said. The ambassador expressed hope the initiative would promote tourism, and business growth between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Dr Anwar bin Mohammed Al Rawas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SalamAir, indicated the decision has been made on the basis of market research and tourism data. He stressed on the company’s aspiration to expand its fleet to various local, regional and international destinations according to a strategy based on real professional foundations.
Captain Mohamed Ahmed, CEO of SalamAir, explained flights to this destination will continue throughout the year and is expected to attract many tourists and residents in both countries, noting that the company is considering increasing the frequency of flights during the next stage.
The total local, regional and international destinations to which SalamAir operates direct flights have reached 39 destinations, including Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, Duqm and Masirah, in addition to its international destinations.
