Saudi: 34 lawyers banned for violations in profession

As many as 34 Saudi men and women lawyers were deleted from the list of practicing lawyers during 2017 for various violations in the profession, local daily Al-Watan reported on Monday quoting the General Authority of Saudi Lawyers.

It said the lawyers were referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigations on charges that they have violated the system and the statute of lawyers.

The authority, in a report, said in the same year it had issued seven disciplinary decisions against men and women lawyers and has transferred 15 other lawyers to the list of non-practicing lawyers.

According to the system of lawyers, the name of any Saudi lawyer who has committed a crime of honor, will be deleted from the list of practicing lawyers and his/her license will be revoked.

The authority said any lawyer who violates the system of lawyers will be imprisoned for a year or fined SR30,000 or receiving the two punishments together.

According to the authority, the violations for which the lawyers will be punished include, among others, verbal abuse against the judges, issuing press statements on certain cases before they are finalized, not committing to the ethics while defending his/ her client, spending the inheritance money without permission from the inheritors, influencing the witnesses of the protagonist, abusing the adversary of his client, mocking the court rules, lying to the judges and the police and making fake contracts.
