At market launch, there will be an initial choice between three petrol engines with a range of outputs from 135 kW (184 hp) to 245 kW (333 hp). Further engine variants will follow. All the models available at market launch are standardized with the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission, which allows fast gearshifts along with lower engine speeds. This has a particularly beneficial effect on efficiency and noise.

The Coupé comes as standard with DIRECT CONTROL suspension which is 15 millimetres lower than on the sedan and is tuned for comfort with an amplitude-dependent damping system. The two door E 400 comes with a
bi-turbo 3.0 liter V6 with 333 horsepower and 354 lb. feet of torque.  This same engine was installed in the previous E 400 coupe, but a new nine-speed automatic transmission replaces the previous seven-speed for improved acceleration and fuel economy.

Active Brake Assist is standard on the E coupe. It is able to warn the driver of an imminent collision, provide optimum support with emergency braking and, if necessary, also autonomously apply the brakes. In addition to slower-moving, stopping or stationary vehicles, it can also detect pedestrians crossing in the danger zone ahead of the vehicle.
