Tourist racks up Dh175,000 fine within 3 hours in a rented Lamborghini

A British tourist racked up Dh175,000 in traffic fines in only three hours after being clocked driving at twice the speed limit in a Lamborghini on one of Dubai’s busiest roads.

The reckless driver accrued the hefty fines on Sheikh Zayed Road, just hours after he rented the Dh1.3m car from vehicle rental dealership, Rent a Car.

The motorist was caught breaking the speed limit 33 times on the road. The owner of the rental dealership said that the tourist had rented the car on July 30.

The dealership soon received notifications of the speeding fines, covering a period from 2.30am until 6am the following morning.

“He was driving at 230 and 240 kilometres per hour,” said Mohammed Ibrahim, the car rental owner.

The speeding fines came to Dh70,000 for 12 violations caught by radar, with an additional Dh105,000 to cover the cost of recovering the car that was impounded after the speeding incident.
