Expatriates living in Oman will have to use two border crossing points only to enter the UAE from Monday, January 1 onwards.
The authorities in Abu Dhabi designated the Khatm Al Shikla and Mezyad crossings for foreigners planning to drive from Oman to the UAE and other GCC member states.
A notice issued by the UAE Interior Ministry said that only Emiratis, citizens of other GCC states and their companions would be allowed to use the other border crossings with Oman.
Under the new measure, expatriate communities living in the Sultanate of Oman will not be allowed to use Hatta and Al Ain border crossings, said Shabiba newspaper.
Expatriates living in the UAE will also have to use the Khatm Al Shikla and Mezyad crossings only while driving to Oman.
A spokesman for the Royal Oman Police said that no changes have so far been introduced in procedures at Omani ports.
However, foreign travellers have been advised to comply with the ports designated by the UAE authorities.
