Civil Defence extinguished the fire in a building in Manama Suq by 13 vehicles and 49 personnel. Initial details indicate that no injuries were reported.
Firemen were battling the massive blaze that reportedly erupted in the shop early this morning. According to sources, the fire which started in a shop that sells silverware on Shaikh Abdulla road and spread to nearby buildings.
The Civil Defence was alerted about the fire at around 9am. The fire is suspected to have started from the second floor of the shop.
Witnesses told the GDN they heard an “explosion noise” around 9am.“I was about to open my shop which is hardly metres away from this shop and I heard an explosion like a gas cylinder,” said the Indian national.
“It was from the second floor of the shop, and we saw the flames first.” Police have evacuated nearby shops and roads in and around Manama, leading to Shaikh Abdulla road, have also been closed.
