Abu Dhabi extends travel ban further for third week

The restrictions on movement in and out of Abu Dhabi will be extended into a third week, starting tomorrow, Tuesday, June 16.

Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Committee for the Covid-19 Pandemic, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police HQ and Department of Health, Abu Dhabi, said the decision to extend the ban was made in order to enhance the effectiveness of the expanded National Screening Programme.

Over 388,000 people in the emirate have been tested for the coronavirus in the first two weeks of the travel ban, as part of the preventative measures being taken to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Abu Dhabi.

The decision means that anyone wishing to enter or exit the emirate, or travel between regions in Abu Dhabi, must apply for a move permit.

Residents will be allowed to move within a region in the emirate – Abu Dhabi City, Al Ain and Al Dhafra – while following the official timings of the National Sterilisation Programme between 10pm and 6am.

In accordance with current procedures, special permits will be made available to employees working in vital sectors or those with emergency medical cases.
