Bahrain is about to gain a new long-haul connection, and it is a significant one.
AirAsia X has announced the launch of a daily service linking Kuala Lumpur to Bahrain and onward to London Gatwick. Flights are scheduled to begin on 26 June 2026, with Bahrain positioned as the airline’s first strategic hub connecting Southeast Asia to Europe.
Here’s what that means in practical terms.
Daily Flights to Kuala Lumpur and London
The new route will operate daily across all sectors.
From Bahrain, passengers can fly to Kuala Lumpur each evening at 20:45, arriving at 10:05 the next day. The return flight departs Kuala Lumpur at 22:00 and lands in Bahrain at 00:40.
For London, the Bahrain departure is at 02:25, arriving at London Gatwick at 06:20 local time. The return service leaves London at 09:25 and reaches Bahrain at 18:55.
All services will be operated using the airline’s Airbus A330 aircraft, configured for long-haul travel. Travellers will have the choice between standard economy seating and the airline’s Premium Flatbed product for added comfort.
Why Bahrain?
AirAsia X is not simply adding another stop to its network. By structuring this as a Kuala Lumpur–Bahrain–London corridor, the airline is using Bahrain as a central point between Asia and Europe.
This also marks the carrier’s second Fifth Freedom route, allowing it to carry passengers directly between Bahrain and London as part of a wider international service. For travellers in the Kingdom, this creates another daily option to the UK at competitive pricing.
For those heading east, Kuala Lumpur opens access to a much wider network. AirAsia X connects to 95 destinations across 23 Asian countries, including Australia, Japan, Vietnam and Sri Lanka, through nearly 2,000 weekly flights from its Malaysian hub.

What It Means for Travellers
For residents of Bahrain, the route adds flexibility. London remains one of the most travelled destinations from the Gulf, whether for education, business or leisure. At the same time, Southeast Asia continues to grow in popularity for holidays and work travel.
The daily frequency suggests the airline is confident in steady demand on both legs. For the tourism sector, it also creates another pathway for visitors from Southeast Asia and the UK to travel to Bahrain.
Introductory Fares
To mark the launch, AirAsia X has introduced promotional one-way fares on a limited basis. Fares from Bahrain to Kuala Lumpur start from BHD 39, while fares to London start from BHD 41. Premium Flatbed options begin from BHD 199 and BHD 159, respectively, on each sector.
Bookings are open until 22 February 2026 for travel between 26 June and 30 November 2026, subject to availability and standard terms.
The Bigger Picture
Air connectivity plays a central role in how Bahrain positions itself regionally and globally. Adding a daily Asia–Bahrain–Europe corridor strengthens that positioning and broadens the Kingdom’s reach.
Flights begin 26 June 2026. For travellers in Bahrain, that means a new direct link to Kuala Lumpur and an additional daily option to London, all within a single connected route.
