Gulf Insider test drives a talking car!
The A-Class is the new entry level car for Mercedes, designed to lure young new customers to the brand. It is also one of the most advanced cars you can buy in Bahrain.
This car has the best infotainment system that I’ve ever seen. It’s literally a talking car. You ask it to do things such as tell you the time, day, location, open the sun roof etc… and it will do so. You can even have a conversation (of sorts) with her (it?). Ask her (it?) a joke and she will tell you a bad joke, then explain she was designed by German engineers!
This is all thanks to an artificial intelligence-driven driver interface called MBUX. It caters to your driving whims to make your journey more pleasurable.
This car comes with lots of useful features, including a panoramic roof, LED headlamps and taillamps, 18-inch wheels, keyless start, smartphone integration, colour adjustable ambient lighting, active brake assist, and of course the MBUX system.
Optional extras include traffic-and-obstacle-monitoring, semi-self-driving capability (from the S-Class) cameras, radar, and navigation data.
A 2.0 liter 224-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine gives impressive acceleration.
Under the bonnet there’s a 2.0 liter 224-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine that gives impressive acceleration.
Outside, its compact size is carefully shaped to make it appear sporty and muscular. Mercedes claims is a production-car world-record-low drag coefficient of 0.22, which helps it go faster, boosts fuel economy, and makes it quieter.
Inside, it looks luxurious and futuristic with a large dual-screen infotainment system, and huge and interesting looking brushed alloy air vents in the dash that look a bit art-deco.
The A250 is light, and yet manages to be solid and luxurious – which is only to be expected from a brand famous for manufacturing heavy, substantial vehicles.
