Bahrain: Six Held in Foiled Trafficking of Narcotics Inside Potato Shipment

The Sea Ports Customs Directorate of Customs Affairs has foiled the trafficking of narcotics inside a container carrying a shipment of potatoes from an Asian country. The Anti-Narcotics Directorate of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science was notified.

A security team was deployed to the scene for security and legal procedures. The shipment contained over 33 kg of Hashish and another type of narcotic locally known as “Shabu” worth BD700,000.

An investigation into the case identified the owner of the company that imported the shipment, in which he is an Asian living outside Bahrain and other mediators involved in trafficking, clearance procedures and transporting the shipment to the stores of a shop.

Six, most of them of the nationality from which the shipment came, were arrested, including the brother of the company’s owner and mediators. Investigation continues for the arrest of two suspects who are outside Bahrain. Legal proceedings were taken, and the case was referred to the Public Prosecutor.
