Bahrain approves booster shots for ages 60, above

The National Medical Taskforce for Combatting the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has approved the booster vaccination for those aged 60 and above and the immunocompromised who have been fully vaccinated for six months with Pfizer-BioNTech and  AstraZeneca (Covishield).

Those who qualify for the booster dose can choose to take the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine as a booster dose or the same vaccine taken for their first and second doses.

The recommendation has been made following a decision by the Government Executive Committee after a study confirming that the booster shots maximise immunity against COVID-19, which in turn lowers risk of complications and death.

Starting from October 1, 2021, the vaccination status of eligible individuals will change on the BeAware app from Green Shield to Yellow Shield until they opt to receive a booster shot.

The opening of registration will be announced in due course. Those eligible can arrange an appointment through the website or the BeAware app.
