Around BD5,000 worth jewellery was burgled from a two-storey villa in Zinj on Friday night.
Sources said the expat family of four, which lives in the villa, was away when the burglary occurred. Police officials have begun a probe into the incident, it is learnt.
Pradeep, head of the family, said, “We were away for nearly six hours and returned by 11.45 pm. We were shocked to see that someone had broken into the house and made off with jewellery worth around BD5,000.”
“They made off with my daughter’s ornaments. Scattered wardrobe and other items suggested that they would have carried out a thorough search before leaving the home.”
Mr Pradeep said this was the second time burglars were targeting his house. “In 2015, I was living in Hoora and items worth nearly BD25,000 were stolen from my house.
“Though I filed a complaint with police, there have been no leads until now.” He said that police informed him that the same house was burgled twice earlier and a thorough probe is on.
In the past few months, a string of burglaries was reported from areas in and around Zinj. It is suspected that burglars entered the house through a window on the top floor of the villa.
