“COVID-19 is not included in the diseases covered by insurance policies in Bahrain,” insurance experts and officials confirmed.
They explained that it was excluded from insurance as it was classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Insurance expert and former Chairman of Bahrain Kuwait Insurance Company, Ibrahim Al-Rayyes, stated that the virus was among the diseases that were covered by insurance in the past before WHO declared it as a pandemic.
He added that the health insurance policies exclude any disease or virus that becomes a pandemic automatically and formally, as the insurance policies state that the policy does not cover epidemic treatments.
For his part, General Manager of the Facilitation Insurance Company, Ali Al-Dailami, said that COVID-19 was an unexpected event. He noted that it was not covered by the technically or by any protocol in health insurance policies.
