Bahrain: Cursing on Digital Platforms? Fine of BHD 50,000 Awaits

The Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security Committee approved a draft law to add a new article on information technology crimes submitted by the Shura Council.

Whoever commits or incites to commit any of the acts of cursing and defamation shall be punished by imprisonment and a fine not less than one thousand dinars and not more than fifty thousand dinars.

The draft law aims to reduce the spread of cursing and defamation, insulting and harming private lives through information technology means.
