The demand for permits to bring domestic workers witnessed a noticeable decrease in 2019 compared to 2018. This is according to an analysis of official statistics by the Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA).
The official statistics added that the total number of housemaids in the second quarter of 2019 reached 86,349 compared to 103,527 in the first quarter which means that the ratio of domestic workers decreased by 17 percent in one year.
The figures revealed that there is an annual decrease in demand for domestic workers, which includes domestic workers, farmers, home guards, drivers, and cooks who perform their jobs for the homeowner or his family.
It is noteworthy that Bahrainis spend BD80 million annually to bring domestic workers from different countries.
