Works Ministry teams were in action as heavy rains caused floods across the Kingdom yesterday.
Suction tankers were deployed to drain rainwater from flood-affected areas in Saar, Hamala, Shakhurah, Al Jasra, Budaiya, Zinj and parts of Manama. In anticipation of the rainy season, task forces were created in order to combat the possible troubles caused by rain.
The government has been taking steps for the past two months to avoid water logging issues caused by rain during the rainy season.
A team has been dedicated to each governorate, a source from the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning said. Reportedly, the Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Essam Khalaf has ordered the teams to be ready for the rainy season to tackle all issues.
Recently, the ministry officials had met with municipal council members, where the rainy season was a strong point of discussion.
The Works Ministry received many calls from flooded neighbourhoods to handle the situation. The ministry confirmed that some of those cases were referred to the Civil Defence Directorate within the Interior Ministry and 33 water suction tankers were deployed to clear floodwaters.
The Coast Guard Command has called on the seafarers to take caution, given the Kingdom’s exposure to high-speed winds.
The Meteorological Directorate forecasts unsettled weather with scattered rain showers may become thundery at times for today.
