The court sentenced an expat maid to one-year imprisonment and permanent deportation for burning her sponsor’s house in Busaiteen earlier this year.
The Kenyan housemaid fled the scene after setting the house on fire on February 10 and was later referred to the Public Prosecution. During her interrogation, the woman confessed that she torched her sponsor’s daughter’s room to take revenge on her sponsor for allegedly refusing to pay her salary.
She told the prosecution that her mobile phone was seized and was never given back, making it impossible to communicate with her family members back home.
The expat maid used match sticks to torch a bed in one of the rooms as her sponsor was rude and verbally insulted her frequently.
