A Bahraini man was fined for smashing his daughter’s brand new smartphone. The phone was a birthday gift from the child’s mother who filed a complaint against him seeking compensation.
Following an altercation later in the day, the man smashed the phone making it completely useless in the process. The wife presented to the court a receipt of the purchase & an expert note stating that the phone is destroyed beyond repair.
The Lower Criminal Court ordered the man to pay a fine of BD100 and another BD 200 to cover the cost pf the phone. Although the current penal law allows the court to grant jail terms for such offences, the judges decided to settle the case with a fine.
