Bahrain: Five outlets, managers fined BD 15,000 for violations

A court has ordered five outlets and their officials to pay fines ranging from BD 1,000 to 2,000, or a total of BD 15,000, for failing to adhere to the mandatory precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Chief of the Ministries and Public Entities Prosecution announced.

Case details reveal that the Public Prosecution had received five reports from the Public Health Directorate, indicating that three restaurants, a café and a supermarket had yesterday flouted the mandatory measures to combat the spread of the pandemic.

The Public Health Directorate reported several irregularities, including non-commitment to social distancing, not leaving the two-metre distance between tables, exceeding the 50% capacity for each table, allowing the entry of customers whose numbers exceeded the outlet’s required capacity and failure to check customers’ temperature upon entry.

The outlets were shut down, and the Public Prosecution was notified.

The Public Prosecution launched an investigation immediately after receiving the notifications earlier today and ordered the five defendants and the outlets be referred to the Lower Criminal Court which issued its afore-mentioned verdict.
