The Bahrain Cassation Court has upheld the sentences issued against four Asian men involved in selling expired food.
According to court files, the defendants had a warehouse in Hamala, inside which, they stocked expired foodstuffs. They forged the expiry dates and sold them to local stores.
The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism seized over 80,000 items, some expired in 2008, revealed an official from the Ministry.
The property was home for many rats, he added.
Two of the defendants were sentenced to five years in prison and fined BD5,000. The third defendant was sentenced to three years and fined BD2,000. The fourth defendant was not sentenced time in prison, but was fined BD5,000.
