Bahrain: Hypermarkets Step Up Safety Measures Against COVID-19

Grocery stores are one of the few places people still gather in large numbers, now that so many restaurants, salons and businesses have been limiting their services. With a lot of customers still coming on a daily basis, grocery stores are now stepping up safety measures to keep their employees and customers safe.

Several malls, grocery stores and hypermarkets in Bahrain have put in place measures to protect the public, after the health ministry confirmed a spike in confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country.

Speaking to Gulf Insider, Lulu Hypermarket Bahrain assured it customers and employees that it prioritizes their safety. Different measures have been implemented to ensure that the Ministry of Health’s directives are in place for a safe shopping environment.

All branches of Lulu are observing the following measures against the spread of COVID-19:

  1. Disinfection chamber at entrance
  2. Free face masks and gloves for customers
  3. Temperature checks for employees and customers
  4. Hand-washing facility for customers
  5. Social distancing markers and stands for awareness
  6. Protective shields
  7. Periodic disinfection of all outlets

Under government rules, essential businesses in Bahrain including supermarkets must operate in a way that minimizes the risk of COVID-19 transmission. On the other hand, all visitors are also implored to fully comply with the precautionary measures in place.

For residents, the measures are a welcome relief. Commenting on a recent article about Lulu Hypermarket, John said, “Lulu has always taken this (safety) very seriously. One of the first, if not the first, to implement precautionary measures in their branches”.

Michelle, one of the customers shopping at Lulu says the measures done by the retailer are reassuring. “I feel safer when shopping. I’ve been to other groceries and all they do is provide a sanitizer”, she says.
