Bahrain: BIC Goes Cashless for WEC

Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) announced today that it is introducing an all-new, fan-friendly initiative at this weekend’s Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain, with the aim of enhancing the race-goer experience.

For the first time ever, BIC is becoming a cashless venue for WEC, making for a more convenient and efficient visit to “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East” this Friday and Saturday for the season-finale of the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

In this ground-breaking initiative, all those attending the Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain will be able to make a transaction either with their regular debit or credit card or contactless payment method, or a special pre-payment card.

Those wishing to utilise the all-new pre-payment card can visit the BIC information booth in the vending area. An amount will be deposited, payable in cash, in exchange for the pre-payment card of equivalent value. This card can be used at any outlet of choice within the circuit premises on both days of the WEC weekend.

Before leaving BIC, fans can return to the information booth where a full refund will be issued for the outstanding balance.

Through this cashless initiative, BIC aims to make the fans’ experience at the circuit more convenient, as it negates the need of having to carry around any paper bills or coins, while also making for more efficient and swifter transactions at outlets.

Such an initiative is part of BIC’s continuous commitment to improving the fans’ experience every time they visit the track.

Tickets to the Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain remain available and fans are urged to purchase theirs today for this unmissable occasion at BIC.

Tickets cost just BD5.500 for adults and BD2.750 for kids for the two-day weekend programme. They can be bought online at BIC’s official website bahraingp.com or by calling the BIC Hotline on +973-17450000. Tickets are priced as one of the most affordable ways to witness a world championship motorsport event.

Hospitality packages are also available for the BIC Spirit of Le Mans Club Experience, where guests can enjoy exclusive cuisine and incredible views in BIC’s Paddock hospitality.

Packages are also available to purchase online or via the BIC Hotline.

This year’s Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain will be the 12th time the WEC will be racing in Sakhir, and the fifth time the event is taking place in its current eight-hour format.

The WEC’s protagonists will be tackling BIC’s 5.412-kilometre track from day to night, making for a brilliant spectacle that flags off under the afternoon sun and wraps up beneath the stars while being brilliantly lit by BIC’s state-of-the-art floodlights.

A record number of 12 Hypercars flying the flags of eight teams and six manufacturers will be lining up on the grid, making for the largest-ever entry in the WEC’s top-tier category to hit the tarmac at BIC.

There will also be top-class racing from the region’s leading one-make series, the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East.

Loads of family entertainment will also be on hand at BIC, plus a WEC-exclusive Open Paddock experience—a unique feature which allows fans to enjoy behind-the-scenes access, getting right next to the teams’ garages and possibly see some of the sport’s star drivers in person.

Furthermore, following the tremendous success of the ground-breaking Green Ticket initiative introduced for last year’s WEC race, BIC and Bapco Energies, in cooperation with the Government of Bahrain, are bringing it back for the 2023 event.

For every WEC ticket sold, a proportion of the revenue, matched by Bapco Energies, will be donated to a fund which will directly support the planting of new Mangroves in Bahrain. This programme supports the national target of quadrupling mangrove coverage across the Kingdom by 2035.

All this and so much more await race-goers at this coming weekend’s Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain.
