Philippines: Saudi embassy warns citizens of Taal Volcano eruption

Saudi Arabia’ embassy in the Philippines has warned on Tuesday the Saudi citizens to take the utmost care and caution from the eruption of the Taal Volcano.

The embassy called on citizens to abide by the security and safety instructions and to follow the instructions and directives given by the competent Philippine authorities in such cases.

In its statement, the embassy also published several emergency phone numbers, embassy’ address and an email for communication.

The Philippine authorities issued warnings to remain on alert and urged residents in the south of the country to leave their homes.

The alert for the Taal volcano, about 70 km (45 miles) south of central Manila, was increased to level 3 from level 2 on the 5-level scale, which the seismology and volcanology agency said meant “there is magmatic intrusion at the main crater that may further drive succeeding eruptions”.

Authorities evacuated more than 1,100 persons living in lakeside communities near the volcano, the disaster agency said. The evacuees include fishermen and fish cage workers in the lake.
