Bahrain: LMRA records more than 1,600 violations by end of Q3 2022
The Chief Executive Officer of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Nouf Abdulrahman Jamsheer said that more than 1,600 Labor Law violations had been reported in the first nine months of 2022.
These violations included cases of illegal employment without a valid work permit and failure to adhere to the conditions stipulated in the issued permits.
Jamsheer said that the total fees imposed due to these violations amounted to BHD 409,000, while 570 cases were referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action.
The CEO highlighted that the Authority has intensified inspection campaigns on facilities and work sites across all governorates, in coordination with relevant stakeholders, to detect and report any violations related to the Kingdom’s labor laws.
The LMRA report showed that 18,000 inspection visits were conducted by Q3 of 2022 and 185 joint inspection campaigns, including 140 in cooperation with the Nationality, Passports, and Residence Affairs.
These resulted in the reporting of 632 violations by employers, and 977 by expatriate workers.
Jamsheer pointed out that 916 workers were deported following convictions against them due to the reported violations, adding that those who violate labor market and residency laws will not be able to acquire a visa or return.
She called on all employers and experts to abide by the set laws including obtaining valid work permits and paying the set fees, in addition, to ensuring employment at the workplace indicated on the work permit or in the employer’s other branches that engage in the same activity.
