A 30-year-old Bahraini man was sentenced to two years in jail and a fine of BD1,000 for attacking a police officer and possessing drugs.
According to court details, the defendant punched the police officer in the face after he was arrested in connection with attempting to give an undercover agent drug.
“We knew the 30-year-old man was in possession of drugs. Therefore, we instructed an officer in plain clothes to contact him. They agreed to meet and we ordered an anti-drug squad to monitor the situation in order to arrest him red-handed,” a police officer involved in the operation told prosecutors.
“As soon as he handed the drugs, we pounced on him. He attempted to resist the arrest. And he attacked a police officer, punching him in the face,” he added.
The 30-year-old was eventually controlled and he was found to be carrying several types of banned drugs.
He was brought for trial over the accusations of having drugs with an intent to consume and attacking a police officer.
