A man was detained for tweets critical of the country’s upcoming parliamentary elections.
The Public Prosecution received a report from the Anti-Electronic Crime Directorate informing that anti-election posts had been monitored in an individual’s twitter account.
The tweets included dissuading voters from participating in the upcoming municipal and parliamentary elections to undermine the freedom of the polls, hamper the democratic process and tarnish its integrity.
The Probe Committee summoned and questioned the account owner, and charged him with obstructing the freedom of election process.
The committee ordered to remand him pending further investigations before referring him to court.
