Bahrain: More Area Residents to Benefit from Free Car Parking
“The ministry has established a mechanism to exempt residents from car parking meters fees,” revealed the Minister of Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning, Eng. Esam Khalaf, in reply to a parliament inquiry raised by MP Adel Al-Asoumi regarding the fees for parking meters.
Khalaf added that the ministry, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Traffic, intends to issue a poster for residents to be placed inside the car, so that it is clear to traffic officers, that contains the car number, address and the validity of the poster.
The minister explained that the system was currently being applied for the first time on the Qudaibiya and Hoora areas, and it would be generalized to all governorates.
He pointed out that the goal was to allow a greater number of commercial street goers to benefit from the existing car parks and not monopolize them by certain people, and to increase car parking capacity.
