Local markets witnessed an increase in the prices of onions by more than 100% during the past ten days as the price of a kilo rose from 120 fils to 250 fils.

The price for a 20 kg bag of Indian and Pakistani onions reached BD2.200 and BD3.500 for Egyptian onions.

Traders linked the reasons for this increase to the lack of supply and increased demand due to floods and rains in both India and Pakistan and because of the recent wave of high prices in Egypt.
