Bahrain: Poll Candidates Receive Threats On Social Media

The Director-General of Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security announced on Friday that to secure the process of elections, due on November 24, the department had monitored and followed up the complaints by some candidates that they had received threats on the social media asking them to withdraw their candidature.

He said that an investigation showed that those social media accounts were managed in Iran by the political groups operating outside Bahrain, including the dissolved Al Wefaq Society, to disrupt the election process.

He said that to protect the elections from any foreign interference, the citizens should report such cases through the hotline 992 or via 992@interior.gov.bh

The communicated information will be kept confidential. (MOI)
