Bahrain: Preacher jailed for insulting religious symbols

The Third Lower Criminal Court handed a six-month jail term to a preacher for insulting the companions of Prophet Mohammed during his sermons. Earlier, the preacher was summoned by the Public Prosecution for investigation after receiving a complaint from worshippers and a notification from the Specialised Security Directorate.

Prosecutors examined the recorded sermons, which contained expressions of insult and cursing of the honourable companions of Prophet Mohammed. The Public Prosecution interrogated the defendant and confronted him with his recorded sermons, which he admitted he gave them.

The court issued its ruling convicting the offensive preacher and punishing with six months in jail, with immediate effect.
