Kuwait: Ban on camping outside houses still in effect

A ban on camping outside houses in residential areas in Kuwait, prompted by an outbreak of the coronavirus, is still in force, a municipal official has said.

“The ban continues in line with decisions of health authorities. Implementing precautionary measures in abidance of health rules is a matter about which there can be no laxity,” Mohammed Al Muteiri, a spokesman for the Kuwait Municipality added.

He explained that abiding by the ban helps limit the spread of the coronavirus.

Another official, meanwhile, denied claims that a ban on winter camping in front of houses in private residences will be reconsidered. “The ban on such camps is still in force. Citizens are urged to desist from setting up camps in front of their houses as this violates decisions issued by the agencies concerned,” Zeid Al Anazi, the chief of the emergency team in the Kuwaiti capital said, according to Al Qabas newspaper.

Kuwaiti health authorities so far have confirmed a tally of 135,650 virus cases and 833 related deaths.
