The project to develop roads leading to the new Bahrain International Airport (BIA) is in its final stages of implementation. Some minor works from the first stage like installation of pedestrian signs, traffic signs and some other side works are still remaining. The opening of these roads is expected to be in the next month.
The second phase of the project has been divided into several phases to ensure the smooth flow of traffic going to the BIA and the surrounding streets. Some of the main works remaining in the project are digging, paving and re-establishing a water drainage network, development of sidewalks development of lighting poles and necessary traffic signs.
The second phase of the project also included the conversion of the current airport roundabout into an intersection of a traffic light linked to the airport and Khalifa Street. This phase extends to the departures’ roundabout which has been removed and the street was connected to the first stage. The full completion of the project is expected to be with the official opening of the new terminal of the BIA.
