Oman on Lonely Planet’s list of top 10 global tourist destinations

The Sultanate has been ranked the seventh top travel destination in the world for 2022 by Australian website of Lonely Planet.

The website listed eight different sites and places in Oman as recommended for tourists to visit. The places recommended included Muscat Governorate which is rich in forts, museums and other places to visit such as the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the Royal Opera House, Muscat (ROHM) and Muttrah Souq among other places.

The places recommended also included the Wilayat of Bahla, Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah which is famous for pottery crafts and other handicrafts and the city of Nizwa which is famous for its forts, mosques, Falajs and old souqs.

The website also recommended Musandam Governorate which is known for its fascinating scene of the mountains encompassed by the sea. There, visitors can enjoy sea trips on wooden boats to watch dolphins and whales besides enjoying diving trips. A visit to Al Jabal Al Akhdar with its moderate summer climate as well as Jabal Shams are also mentioned.

Visitors can also enjoy watching sands in South and North Al Sharqiyah Governorates famous for sand dunes with some at a height of 100 metres.

The website also pointed to the significance of a visit to Dhofar Governorate known for its Khareef season which make it one of the best tourism destinations in the Sultanate of Oman during summer.
