Bahrain government aims to seek bids from leading construction firms for its ambitious metro railway project during the fourth quarter of 2019, said a report.
The mega project is estimated to cost between $1 billion and $2 billion, reported Al Ayam newspaper citing a transport ministry official.
The project is likely to be built with private participation, it added. The rail project is part of Bahrain’s Public Transport Masterplan 2030, which is to be implemented in phases.
The Phase One will have 30 km of elevated track, 20 stations which is likely to include an airport station. It is expected to have a carrying capacity of 43,000 passengers per hour, it stated.
