Bahrain selected among 25 countries to implement the WHO obesity plan

Bahrain has been selected among a group of 25 states and the first among the GCC member countries to implement the WHO plan to accelerate progress toward reducing obesity.

A remote meeting was held to discuss details of the scheme which will be implemented in coordination with representatives of the Geneva-based WHO, the regional headquarters for the Middle East and the WHO office in Bahrain.

Chairing Bahrain’s team, Health Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Dr. Mariam Al Hajeri welcomed Bahrain’s ranking for the implementation of the WHO plan to accelerate progress toward reducing obesity.

Dr. Buthaina Ajlan, Head of the Nutrition Department, on the Bahrain Nutrition Program, gave a presentation, highlighting Bahrain’s strategies and plans to eliminate obesity and the legislation and laws issued to support its implementation.

Dr. Dalal Al-Rumaihi, Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetologist, Member of the National Committee for Noncommunicable Diseases and Member of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Diabetes Association gave a presentation in which she gave an overview of the role of the Bahrain Diabetes Association in reducing obesity rates among all age groups.
