Bahrain: Southern Municipality distributes umbrella hats to workers

The Southern Area Municipality has distributed umbrella hats to workers at work sites, in cooperation with a voluntary initiative.

Such umbrellas are thick and fitted to the head, so workers do not need to hold them by their hands, which will protect them from the sun and enable them to work comfortably.

The initiative is within the Southern Area Municipality’s keenness to protect workers while working under scorching summer sun heat.

It is also within its plans and strategies to improve its services to the citizens and residents.

The Southern Area Municipality is committed to implementing the ministerial edict 39/ 2013, on banning outdoor afternoon work which begins in July and runs until the end of August.

The annual ban, prohibiting outdoor work from midday to 4pm during July and August months, aims to safeguard workers’ health, ensure their safety against heat exhaustion and sunstroke, as well as prevent summer-related diseases and reduce occupational incidents in view of the increasing temperatures and humidity, in line with the kingdom’s commitment to human rights principles, especially regarding the need to provide secure and healthy work environment.
