Bahrain Targets 5% Renewables In Energy Mix By 2025

Bahrain’s new energy plan has set a target of 5% renewables in the energy mix by 2025, according to Dr Abdulhussain Mirza, Electricity and Water Affairs Minister in Bahrain.

Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the now-running Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, the minister revealed that Bahrain has invited tender bids for a 100 MW solar power plant to be established in the Kingdom.

“We have already received tenders for the large-scale project, and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (MASDAR) is one of the bidders.”

The minister underlined the importance of diversifying sources of energy, a tendency, he said, has become a must to ensure sustainable development and provide safe energy sources for generations to come.

“Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week plays a key role in accelerating reliance on the deployment of renewable energy solutions around the world,” said Mirza.

The minister participated in the opening of the ninth session of the Assembly of IRENA here yesterday and spoke of the central importance attached by the Kingdom of Bahrain to the deployment of suitable renewable energy solutions, primarily, solar and wind energy.
