Bahrain: Tomato, Onion Prices Drop Thanks to Imports

The Central Market of Manama showed a significant decrease in the prices of Indian onions, which reached half of its price after the arrival of huge quantities of Indian onions to the local market.

According to dealers in the Manama market, tens of tons began to go down today, contributing to a drop in prices in the wholesale market from about 600 fils per kilo to nearly 300 fils.

These developments coincide with positive news from Jordan, as Jordan allowed the export of agricultural products exceptionally, especially tomatoes, despite the decision last month to ban exports of Jordan local market in line with the outbreak of Coronavirus.

This has affected the prices of tomatoes to decrease to two and a half dinars for the box in the wholesale market, compared to 3 and a half dinars last week.

The price of lemons remains high, at approximately 1.5 dinars in the retail market, due to a problem related to export in South Africa, which led to pressure on the market, especially with Turkey’s bans on export.
