Bahrain International Airport (BIA) has announced about its final preparations to accommodate the predicted spike in visitors for the Formula One (F1) 2019 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.
The mega event is being scheduled for four days over the weekend from March 28-31 enhancing the Kingdom’s tourism, in turn, boosting the internal economy.
Preparations to accommodate the teams, visitors, and cargo arriving for the event were discussed in detail during a coordination committee meeting between BAC and its partners attended by senior representatives of BIC, Immigration and Passport Control, Customs Affairs, Airport Police from the Ministry of Interior; Gulf Air; Bahrain Airport Services (BAS) and Bahrain Limo.
BAC Chief Airport Operations Officer, Michael Hohenberger said, “The decision to add an additional day to the event will have a major impact on the local economy. Hospitality sector will thrive as the tourists will be staying longer with them. Moreover, it is an exciting challenge for BAC and its partners as we prepare to welcome the most expected number of F1 visitors to date.”
Statistically, the 2018 Bahrain Grand Prix had received 33,000 visitors on its race day however, the scheduled event has set its high expectation to take its visitor count to new heights.
