Airport authorities in India were on high alert on Tuesday following as many as 41 airports across the country receiving multiple bomb threats in emails.

Airports in cities like Chennai, Patna, Nagpur, Jaipur, Vadodara, Coimbatore and Jabalpur were among those targeted.

On Monday, the Delhi airport received a similar email threat about a bomb on a Dubai-bound flight, which turned out to be a false alarm.

Email bomb threats

The threatening emails, sent from the address exhumedyou888@gmail.com, warned of explosives hidden in the airports that would soon detonate.

All affected airports implemented contingency plans and conducted anti-sabotage checks.

Since no explosives were found, the emails are deemed hoax, airport authorities said, adding that they tried to ensure minimal disruption to passenger movements in the wake of the threats.

Similar hoax emails were sent to various airports in April also.

Indian cybersecurity agencies are actively working to trace the origin of these threatening emails, believed to be sent from abroad.

VPN-linked threats

Meanwhile, over 50 hospitals in Mumbai also went on a tizzy following bomb threats in the last 24 hours.

The threats were delivered to establishments like Jaslok Hospital, Raheja Hospital, Seven Hills Hospital, Kohinoor Hospital, KEM Hospital, JJ Hospital, and St George Hospital, through emails sent from a virtual private network (VPN) that doesn’t allow tracing the sender.

Police are investigating the matter to identify those responsible and understand their motives.

Authorities said they are taking these threats seriously, continuing their investigations to ensure public safety.
