Bahrain’s Public Prosecution has completed its investigation into a serious case involving expired food products being sold with fake expiry dates. Twenty-two people and two companies have been referred to court for their involvement. The case began when a worker reported to Khamis Police Station that he was forced to change expiry dates on food items at a company’s warehouse. He said expired goods were being relabeled to appear fresh and fit for sale. The worker recorded a video of this process and filed an official complaint. Following the report, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce shut down the company’s warehouse and shops. A team from the Public Prosecution visited the site, questioned 29 people including company owners and workers, and ordered all of them to be held during the investigation. More than 14,000 expired food items were found in the warehouse, along with chemicals used to erase expiry dates. Some of these products had already reached supermarkets. A forensic expert confirmed the expiry dates had been altered using new labels. Witnesses and police investigations supported the worker’s claims. After reviewing all evidence, the prosecution decided to charge 22 people. Seven others, all of Asian nationality, were released due to […]

Bahrain’s summer heat is set to continue, according to a weather report issued today by the Meteorological Directorate at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications. The report states that the Kingdom will experience typically hot weather during the daytime over the next two days, with light and variable winds expected to shift to moderate by midday. However, starting Tuesday, June 17, 2025, northwesterly winds are expected to pick up and become active, occasionally reaching strong speeds. This shift may stir up dust in open areas and lead to rougher sea conditions. These stronger winds are expected to persist for about a week. On a slightly positive note, the strong northwesterly winds will help lower humidity levels, which could make the heat feel a bit more bearable at times. The Meteorological Directorate is advising the public—especially beachgoers and seafarers—to remain cautious during this period and to stay updated through the official weather bulletins and alerts issued via the Ministry’s channels.

A Bahraini woman has been granted a divorce by the Sharia Court after her husband was convicted of physically and verbally abusing her, including an assault that left her with a broken nose. The woman, who had been married for several years and has children with her husband, had remained silent for the sake of the family. However, the continued violence compelled her to seek legal recourse after a particularly brutal attack. Her lawyer, Abeer Abbas, said the abuse was long-standing and documented. The husband was found guilty by the criminal court of assault, insult, and mistreatment, and was ordered to pay a fine of BD500. His appeal was later dismissed, and the conviction upheld. Following the criminal ruling, the woman filed for divorce in the Sharia Court on the grounds of harm. The court accepted the criminal verdict as sufficient proof of abuse and ruled in her favour. In its decision, the court stated that the level of violence and mistreatment made reconciliation impossible. It issued one irrevocable divorce (khul’) with minor separation, meaning the woman may only remarry her ex-husband with a new marriage contract and dowry. The divorce certificate will be issued once the judgment becomes final.
